Big thanks to Anne for the quick beta.

"Happy birthday!"

Quatre turned around and gave his secretary a polite smile. "Thanks, Sheila." He walked out of the office before he would be forced to engage in small talk. Normally he wouldn't mind, but he was already late.

On the journey from the thirtieth floor of WEI to his car, Quatre encountered more than twenty people who wished him a happy birthday. He had smiled each time, thanked them and kept walking. He knew that his friends wouldn't care that he was busy or that it was his birthday, they would like for him to be on time and he would have to drive really fast to manage that.

It took him seven minutes to get to the restaurant. He handed the keys to the valet and rushed inside, walking through the front door just in time.

"Happy birthday!" The waitress and the manager said at the same time. Smile, thanks, walk. Quatre followed the waitress to the garden and waited patiently for her to leave before walking the few steps separating him from the table where his friends were waiting. They all stood up the minute they saw him.

"Quat!" said Duo, giving Quatre a warm hug. "So, are you feeling old yet?"

Quatre glared. "For all we know, you are older than me."

"That remains a mystery," he said, "so I'm pretending I'm younger, just because I can."

Someone put a hand on Quatre's shoulder and he turned to see Wufei smiling softly. "Quatre," Wufei said before patting Quatre's back twice. "Is it safe to assume that since your teenage years are over, you are going to stop playing those silly games with Maxwell?"

Quatre smirked. "You mean like our quest for finding your ticklish spot?" He poked Wufei a couple of times in the ribs, and shrugged after his efforts proved futile. "He's the bad influence," Quatre said, pointing his thumb in Duo's direction.

Trowa snorted. "Like you need one. You're bad enough by yourself." He rested his chin on Quatre's shoulder and put his arms around Quatre's chest. "They say that with age comes wisdom, but I know that there are some things you'll never learn."

Quatre turned his head a little, so he was staring at Trowa. "Like what?"

"Like the fact that no one believes you are innocent," said Heero, standing in front of Quatre. "Stop denying who you are, Quatre; you are too old for that."

"Oh, I know who I am," Quatre replied, smiling deviously. "I just like to play."

"Playing is for kids," Wufei whispered in his ear. "You are not a kid anymore."

"We, on the other hand," commented Duo, slowly taking off Quatre's tie, "can play all we want."

Quatre knew that his friends didn't believe in saying things, but in showing them, and they indeed gave him a happy birthday.
