To Be Mine

Disclaimer: I don't own Kevin Wilson, he is the sole property of Alex MacDonald and will tell you so if you ask. Alex is owned by Kevin but created by Anne so please ask before borrowing him.

Thanks to Anne who not only let me play in her sandbox, but helped me build a real cool castle.

Insides:

As a teacher, Alex is expected to dress in a professional manner. This does not necessarily mean a coat and tie, but a nice dress shirt and slacks is his usual attire. He presents to the world the picture of a serious young man fresh out of teaching college, intense and deeply invested in his work.

While this is true, the real Alex MacDonald is found in hidden places. It is there in the dog tags he wears around his neck, a gift from his husband Kevin. And in the telepathic bond that always allows them to always feel each other even when they are separated by half a world.

Outsides:

From the outside, Kevin and Alex's home in Colorado Springs looks very similar to the other houses in their neighborhood. It is medium in size and sits back from the road, nestled in a stand of old growth pine trees. The garage however is one of the things that sets it apart. Even though they own only one vehicle, a dark green Blazer, it is larger than the basic two-car garage. It is attached to the house, but is completely lacking in any type of window to the outside. This allows them to have a contained and safe place where their friends, the other Tomorrow People, can teleport in and out of without fear of detection.

Red:

Kevin is generally a very calm and controlled individual. It is one of the things that Alex admires about him. Since they bonded, Alex uses that calm to help him keep a handle on his temper and, as a result, his erratic edge power. However, he finds it amusing that Methos has the ability to make Kevin see red by using just a few words. There is something in Methos' seemly flippant attitude about life and relationships that gets under Kevin's skin no matter how hard he tries to be polite and accepting. However, from his vantage point, Alex can see the similarities between the two in the fact that they use different masks to keep people from getting close.

Orange:

Alex has a fondness for oranges, especially those allowed to ripen on the tree. Kevin knows people in several parts of the world that he can purchase them from so no matter what season it is in Colorado there is always fresh citrus available for snacking on. Opening the refrigerator and finding a new bag of freshly picked oranges always brings a smile to Alex's face. It reminds him of how attentive Kevin is not only to his needs, but to his wants as well.

For his part, Kevin would say the gesture was of a purely selfish nature, as he loves to watch Alex eating, juice coloring his lips and later flavoring his kisses.

Yellow:

Around the walls of Alex's classroom he has brightly colored posters of children engaged in different activities. On the back wall there is one of a little girl in pigtails flying a bright yellow kite and laughing. For some reason he cannot explain, seeing this picture always brings a smile to Kevin's lips. There is something in the joy on her face or the absolutely freedom and innocence in her actions that touches the lost little boy in him. He was surprised and thrilled when, after working almost non stop for a couple of weeks, to walk into his office and find the poster hanging on the wall where he could see if from his desk.

Green:

The Blazer that Alex and Kevin drive is a dark green in color. Kevin's previous vehicle, also a Blazer, was white and when it was time to trade it in for something newer he planned to purchase the same thing only in a newer model. However, when they stepped onto the lot, Alex's eye was immediately caught by the green color of the model on the showroom floor. He said the color reminded him of an old car his family had owned when he was small.

Waxing the blazer in the driveway and admiring the shine on the paint, Kevin has to smile. The car is just one of so many small ways in which Alex has brought color and light into his life.

Blue:

At the bottom of one of Kevin's dresser drawers is an old blue t-shirt. It is thin and threadbare, but he refuses to throw it away. From time to time when he is alone and feeling sad he will bring it out and put it on. The cotton of the material has been worn soft from years of use and the scents of beer, smoke, and sweat still cling to it, or least they seem to his mind. When he wears it he can see, so clearly in his mind, Alex standing nervously in the living room of their old flat, beer bottle in hand, saying I love you for the very first time.

Purple:

For Christmas several years before he and Kevin bonded, Alex gave him a pair of royal purple boxers, at Megabyte's suggestion, as a gag gift. Wrapped in them was the book that Kevin had been looking for, unable to find. He did not think anything more about the boxers until he did the laundry for the first time after they bonded and found them in the hamper. The fact that Kevin had other clean boxers in his drawer showed that they'd not been worn out of desperation. When Alex thought about what that might mean he began to wonder just how long Kevin had been in love with him.

Brown:

When asked what color his eyes are, Kevin describes them as boring shade of brown. Once under the influence of a few too many beers at Joe's he admitted to wanting blue eyes when he was a child. To Alex, however, they are anything, but boring. He has seen them dance with laughter when Kevin is feeling playful and crackle with deep anger. Alex has seen how they darken when Kevin is aroused, need clearly mirrored in their depths. He's been under their scrutiny, fighting the need to squirm from the intensity. Most importantly he knows that when he looks into Kevin's eyes he will always see love and understanding.

Black:

The gown that Alex wore when he graduated from Uni was a deep rich black, the color a symbol of dignity, befitting the seriousness of the ceremony. Watching as Alex walked up the podium to receive his degree, Kevin felt his throat tighten with emotion at his husband's accomplishment. This was something that Alex had worked hard for and achieved all on his own, something he could say was truly his. Without thinking, he reached for Mrs. MacDonald's hand and squeezed it knowing that if he dared take his eyes off Alex for even a second to look at her, that the pride he felt would be matched on her face.

White:

Despite the fact that tradition demands a white cake for weddings, Alex and Kevin opted to have a marble cake for theirs. Kevin preferred chocolate when it came to sweets while Alex liked a lighter flavor such as caramel or hokey pokey. Adam later said it was the perfect symbol of why their relationship worked. Compromise and a blending of two strong minded unique people into something that was part of each of them and yet more than both. Megabyte had rolled his eyes and said why would two guys who had a puppy as their ring bearer do anything in a traditional manner?

Colourless: Even though Alex goes back and forth between the seasons because of teaching in New Zealand and living in Colorado he does not get sick very often. The few times he has gotten a cold, Kevin has had to cajole him into taking medicine for it. Alex despises the way it makes him sleepy and fuzzy headed. Even when using the newer mixtures that are colorless, tasteless and odorless he complains that there is an after taste in his mouth and they smell bad. Kevin has found at times like these the best thing to do is hold Alex close and talk about something nonsensical until he loses the battle to stay awake and drifts off in Kevin's arms.

Birth:

The birth of Alex's niece was a momentous occasion in the MacDonald family since Andrea was the first of the children to have a child of her own. Despite the concerns raised by the priest who preformed the christening, she named Alex and Kevin as her daughter's godparents, a responsibility they were honored by and took to heart. However, when Alex came home one day and found Kevin studying their budget he laughed and shook his head before explaining that Andrea was joking when she said that one of the duties of a godparent is to buy the child her first car.

Death:

For Alex and Kevin the vow 'till death do we part' is literal as well as spiritual in its meaning. Both are painfully aware that because of the telepathic bond between them, that if one were to the die the other would follow soon after. They went into the relationship with their eyes open, knowing that the bond meant forever, and once it was in place there was no way to ever go back. When Kevin occasionally lets himself think about Alex dying he finds comfort in the knowledge that they would not be separated from each other for long.

Too Much:

When Kevin and Alex make love, Kevin keeps his empathic shields raised because if he doesn't he can feel Alex both empathically and through the bond. He loses himself, and the stimulation that his body is feeling, in the waves of Alex's emotions that flood his mind. When Alex first realized what was happening he was hurt because he always made sure he was completely open to Kevin. It took Kevin opening himself up, and letting Alex relive his memory, for him to understand that it was too much for Kevin to handle emotionally if he let himself drown in Alex every time they were together.

Not Enough:

Touching both physically and telepathically has always been something Kevin and Alex indulged in frequently since bonding. After being kidnapped by Professor Galt and having their bond shattered, the need to be able to feel each other is much stronger. Telepathic caresses are exchanged regularly when they are not in the same place. When they are together, no opportunity to touch hands, kiss, or just be in each other's personal space, is allowed to pass. Both feel that no matter how long they live, they'll never be able to completely let go of the fear that the sense they have of each other is gone.

Shapes:

Love and relationships, like people, come in many and varied shapes and sizes, each unique to the people involved in it. Kevin and Alex know that their marriage is different than the traditional ideal in many ways, but it doesn't bother either one of them. Being gay Tomorrow People who work in different parts of the world means that there are going to be some deviations from the norm. As far as they are concerned their marriage, with all of its quirks, works perfectly for the two of them and that is really all that matters.

Triangle:

Alex struggled for a long time with his feelings of guilt that he was responsible for breaking up Jamie and Lisa by blackmailing Lisa into rejoining the other Tomorrow People. A decision that led to her realization that she was in love with Adam. Despite Kevin's reassurances that it was better for both Jamie and Lisa, Alex refused to let himself off the hook until the day Jamie and Marissa exchanged vows, both obviously in love and with eyes for only each other in a church that was filled to capacity.

Square:

The gem in Kevin and Alex's wedding rings is a square cut diamond that is set into the heavy gold band. Very masculine in look and design. The two rings appear identical though Alex's is several sizes larger due to the size of his hands. As simply a piece of jewelry each one is worth quite a bit since Kevin would settle for nothing less than the best when pledging his lifelong commitment to Alex. However, it is the meaning symbolized by the inscription etched into the inside of the bands that makes them priceless to their owners.

Circle:

One night while babysitting Will, Kevin and Alex let themselves get talked into watching 'The lion king', Will's favorite movie. After the movie was over and Will bedded down on the couch for the night, Alex told Kevin that he really liked the concept of the circle of life and how things always come back around to where they started. It gave him a sense of hope and faith in the future. Adding with the hint of a smile that baby Simba reminded him of how Natalie had looked when they had first gotten her.

Moon:

Kevin was thrilled when Mr. MacDonald invited him and Alex to go tramping with him, Andrew, and Jamie as part of their traditional family outing. Their first night out, he slipped out of the sleeping bag he shared with Alex and silently stole outside to look at the sky, enjoying the celestial landscape of stars and the moon that is usually much less visible from their house in Colorado. He was not surprised when a few minutes later soft footsteps sounded behind him and pair of strong arms wrapped around his waist. Quietly they stood, Kevin safe in Alex's arms, enjoying the peace of the bush night.

Star:

In his time with SGC, Kevin has gone through the stargate quite a few times. Each trip brings with it a sense of anticipation of the new things to be discovered on the other side. It also comes with a price, the dampening of his bond with Alex and loss of contact with the rest of the Tomorrow People. The longer they have been bonded the more disconcerting this feeling has become for him. After he and Alex had an extremely unpleasant experience on another world, Kevin decided that he could no longer allow himself to willingly feel that type of separation from his husband.

Heart:

In the heart of downtown Colorado Springs, there is a little coffee shop that Alex and Kevin are fond of. It is one of their favorite places to have a late breakfast or early lunch on Saturday mornings when they are out running errands. Alex always orders a large sweet roll and a cup of tea even though he knows Kevin will tease about watching his boyish figure while he eats his 'disgustingly healthy' blueberry muffin. Alex knows that he will emerge the victor in the ongoing teasing battle when he leans back in his chair and slowly licks his fingers clean of the sugar that invariably coats them.

Diamond:

A few miles from Alex and Kevin's house in Colorado, there is a small park. When they first moved in it was nothing more than a sandbox and a few swings. In the time since then it has expanded to include a baseball diamond, a basketball court, and assorted playground equipment. Even though he doesn't know any of the children playing, Kevin occasionally stops and watches part of a little league game in the summer. It makes him happy and sad at the same time to see the families cheering on their sons or daughters and in some small way lets him feel he is a part of it.

Club:

When they were on their honeymoon, Alex and Kevin spent a few hours in a gay club in Paris. While they both enjoyed being able to dance without anyone watching them or making snide remarks they found the place to be a bit crowded. Kevin, in particular, found the strong emotions being projected a somewhat overwhelming. After a single beer each and being jostled one time too many on the dance floor they decided to leave and go for a walk along the Seine instead. Later they both agreed that sipping champagne while they danced slowly, undressing each other, in their hotel room, was much better.

Spade:

Kevin leaned on the spade he had been using to dig a hole off to one side in his and Alex's backyard. The hole was almost deep enough for him to plant the sapling that leaned against the wall on the back porch. It didn't look like much, but the gentleman at the nursery had promised it was a type of tree that grew quickly, branching out as it did. Alex had always wanted a tree swing as a child and while Kevin could not go back and fulfill that childhood wish for his husband he could make sure that Alex was able to share that little part of himself with the next generation.

Breakfast:

Before Kevin changed his work schedule at SGC, he and Alex used to eat breakfast alone most of the week. On the days that they were both rostered off they still had to contend with diverse sleeping schedules. The rare mornings that they were both up at the same time were treasured as special moments. Occasionally, Kevin will get up and make a full English breakfast and serve it to Alex in bed. The need to let Alex sleep battling with and losing his need to see a sleepy smile and hear a mumbled I love you.

Lunch:

When Alex was at uni, he spent most of his summer breaks working with Kevin at SGC. One of the perks of sharing a workplace was being able to eat lunch together. They would often wait until later in day when the cafeteria was less crowded so they could find a quiet corner in which to enjoy their lunch. Kevin likes to tease Alex that he is the reason heads turn when they are together and Alex retaliates by saying it is Kevin. The truth of the matter it is the way they interact, the lingering touches, soft smiles, and appearance of being lost in their own world that garners both the jealous stares and affectionate smiles.

Dinner:

Dinner is the one meal that Kevin and Alex always make sure to eat together. It means that Kevin eats late in the evening, but he compensates by having a large breakfast and a late lunch. Most days Alex ports into the house to find dinner in the oven or cooking on the stove. While he feels guilty for not doing more of the cooking he is able to balance that by making tea and a salad while Kevin sets the table. It's a favorite time for both to wind down from the events of the day and enjoy the pleasure of spending time together.

Food:

Before he bonded with Alex, Kevin used to spend a good portion of the hours he was not at work, sleeping or working on things he had brought home to look over. As a result he ate a lot of cafeteria food and take out. Since bonding with Alex, however, things have changed. His diet has grown to include a lot more foods from New Zealand, some of which are more like he remembers from home. He is also less inclined to grab something on the way home, now preferring to cook dinner since he has someone to share it with.

Drink:

Neither Alex nor Kevin drink much in the way of alcohol. Though they always have some beer in their refrigerator along with the occasional bottle of wine. When they drink it is a bottle of beer that is nursed along the course of an evening, accompanied by food. It's not uncommon for them to open just one bottle and split it between the two of them, as a shared treat. The night they managed to drink a full six-pack, they were both extremely intoxicated. They paid for it the next day with fierce hangovers and listening to Megabyte describing what he was having for breakfast in glorious detail.

Passing:

Alex graduated from uni with high marks, much to his surprise, as he spent each semester fretting and fussing about passing his courses. Where Alex tends to devalue himself and his abilities, Kevin has had faith. He has always seen the potential within Alex and known that with some self-confidence his husband would come into his own. Over the years they have been together Kevin has watched proudly as Alex has become stronger and more sure of himself in many ways. However, all it takes is having to play the piano in public for the scared, unsure little boy who knows he will never match up to his big brother to come out.

Rain:

The sound of rain hitting the window is one that Alex is very familiar with being from New Zealand. Lying in bed at night listening to it, reminds him of home and how he used to dread getting up in the morning knowing that his walk to school would be wet and muddy. Now, curled up next to Kevin, it makes him appreciate being safe and warm. Besides which, chances are, though it might still be raining in the morning in Colorado Springs, it will be dry in Wellington.

Snow:

Natalie loves the snow. She will spend hours running and chasing the falling flakes much to the amusement of her owners. Kevin has taught her to catch and retrieve snowballs, a trick that he loves to have her perform. On the piano there is a picture in a gilded silver frame of Natalie during her first winter. She is standing on her hind paws, stretching up to steal the carrot that is the nose of a poor hapless snowman. There is a matching one of Kevin laughing with tears streaming down his face as he watches her that Alex carries with him in one of the compartments of his satchel.

Lightning:

In the woods not too far from Alex and Kevin's house is an old tree that was struck by lightning. There is a black scar that runs from the fork of the tree up one branch before disappearing into the foliage. The man who was hired to look at it after it was hit informed them that the best thing to do would be to chop it down before it fell over. After discussing it, Alex and Kevin decided to let it stand and see what happened. Despite the damage done to it, the tree continues to survive and bloom each spring. Justifying for them their decision to choose a chance at life over a certainty of death.

Thunder:

The first thunderstorm of the summer after Kevin and Alex became puppy parents, Kevin raced home from SGC having heard stories of dogs being frightened and running away because of loud claps of thunder. He pulled open the back gate and looked around, panicking when there was no Natalie in sight. Thinking she might have gone in through the doggy door and be hiding under the bed, he opened the door and stepped in. Walking quickly through the darkened living room he almost tripped over her, sprawled out, sound asleep, in the middle of the floor.

Storm:

As a small child, Alex didn't like the storms that blew through his neighborhood bringing with them driving rain and heavy winds that made the house creak and groan. When he got scared he would sneak out of his bed and crawl in with Jamie who would always move over, half asleep, and throw an arm around his frightened little brother. As Alex grew older, Jamie continued to offer him shelter through storms that were of a more emotional nature including the hurricane, in the form of Mrs. MacDonald, that erupted the day Alex announced he and Kevin were in love and together as a couple.

Light:

The master bathroom in Kevin and Alex's house has a skylight that brightens up the room considerably. When they first moved in both Alex and Kevin would catch themselves going back into the bathroom to turn off a light that was never on. There are times, especially during the winter, when the light is left on because whoever was in the bathroom has forgotten that it needed to be turned off. Kevin suggested something that senses the amount of light in the air and motion with in the bathroom, but Alex informed him he would bloody well pay the light bill before dealing with having it go dark when he had Kevin pinned against the wall in the shower.

Dark:

When he was a child, especially in the time before he broke out and was having dreams of Lisa drowning, Kevin developed a fear of the dark. Over time he grew out of it, no longer frightened by what was wrong with him. His experiences with Galt and coming close to losing Alex have shown him that it is not the mere absence of light that he should fear. Rather it is the darkness that lurks in men's souls and turns them into something evil and cruel where the real danger lies.

Trees:

One of the things that Kevin really likes about living in Colorado is that his and Alex's house is surrounded by trees on all sides. They provide shelter from prying eyes without making him feel isolated from the rest of the world. As child growing up in London, one of the things he loved about going to visit his Aunt Ruth was being in the country. Alex, on the other hand, grew up in a neighborhood that had lots of trees and bushes so to him it's like being home. Both of them enjoy walking hand in hand through the forest while Natalie runs free in front of them.

Sea:

There is an old expression that Kevin half remembers from school about bounty from the sea. He never really thought about it or what it might mean until the day Alex teleported into Kevin's office at the SGC, mad as a proverbial wet hen. In attempting to come to see him, Alex's concentration had faltered, landing him accidentally in the ocean. He was completely displeased by his dunking, since his clothing was soaked and clinging to him. Much amused, Sam had to nudge Kevin to remind him he was staring. She then left to get a towel and something for Alex to change into before bursting into laughter in the hallway.

Desert:

The desert is not a locale that appeals to either Alex or Kevin. Both would rather be in the midst of greenery and running water, which is why their favorite place to picnic or just spend time is the Riverpark in New Zealand. Kevin is fully aware that the correct name is the Forestpark but he insists on calling it the Riverpark because it makes it seem as if it is something different or special than the place everyone else knows. Plus, a part of him loves the sigh and little smile of amusement that it always elicits from Alex.

Island: The ship, half buried on a deserted island, is a beacon that draws new Tomorrow People when they break out. In the time period between Alex's eighteenth birthday and when he and Kevin bonded, Kevin found himself spending the little time he wasn't sleeping or working walking around the island or sitting in the ship trying to make some sense of his thoughts.

Waking up one morning to find himself curled up against one of the view ports with Megabyte sitting on the ground next to him, he decided that he needed to make sure his friends were not eavesdropping when he was trying to sort through the complexities of his life.

Mountain:

SGC is located under a mountain in Colorado Springs. The tons of stone allowing for more security than any building would. For Kevin, it is his home away from home. With the exception of when NID is visiting he feels as safe there as he does in his own home. Because he knows how important it is to do what you love and enjoy the people you work with he has encouraged Alex's desire to work in New Zealand at St. Mark's. Despite the challenges of working in different time zones, watching Alex talk animatedly about his students is well worth it.

Cave:

On one of his trips off world, Kevin ended up holed up in a cave for several days with Sam, Jack and Daniel waiting to speak to a messenger that never showed. Despite Jack's incessant complaining about the rain, Kevin had an interesting conversation with Daniel and Sam about how symbols repeat through artifacts and technology. When he told Alex about it later, going into details about obscure meanings and the importance of symbols for communication, Alex just smiled and nodded, most of what was being said going past him. It was the animation in Kevin's movements and the joy in his eyes that held him enthralled through the whole discussion.

Hot:

With the exceptions of water and beer, both Alex and Kevin prefer their drinks warm. It is not uncommon for the kettle to be on low and brought to boil as needed when they are home. Alex drinks coffee as well as tea while Kevin is strictly a tea drinker, often going through five or six full mugs in a day, especially if he is sitting at his desk working on a project. When Alex teases him about peeing tea he just smirks and reminds his husband that he has been given the stamp of perfect health by Janet every time she examines him.

Cold:

The hot water heater in Kevin and Alex's house is a custom addition that was put in after the house was built. When it was installed the plumber shook his head in confusion, not sure why a three bedroom house with two baths and only two occupants would need a hot water heater that was almost double the capacity of the size normally found in a home. Alex was not about to tell him that after having the water run cold on them twice in a row while they were in the middle of having sex in the shower, Kevin had stomped out of the bathroom and gone to research hot water heaters and the options available for capacity.

He:

Alex despises his brother in law, Andrea's husband, Robert. He likes to make sly comments to Alex, implying that Alex's relationship with Kevin is based more what is in their checkbook then what is in their hearts. Even going so far as to question whether or not Alex is actually gay or just playing at it for the financial rewards that come with along with being with Kevin. Whenever Alex comes in contact with him for even a short period of time he ends up ranting and needing Kevin to remind him that despite the differences in their incomes what they have together is theirs.

She:

Mrs. MacDonald runs her home with a firm but loving hand. She might not always agree with, or like, the choices that her children make, but she has never turned her back on any of them. Watching Alex bloom as a person and seeing how happy he is in his relationship with Kevin has made her question some of her long held beliefs about God and what is right and wrong. Though she struggles with accepting the relationship and her son's choice, she has found it difficult to remain angry at Kevin when she catches him standing a bit to the side at family gatherings, the desire to be a part clearly written on his features.

Birthday:

On his twenty-second birthday, the first one after he graduated uni and was working full time, Alex got a palm handheld along with some accessories for it from Kevin and Natalie. He's found it to be an invaluable tool for planning and organizing his calendar and phone book. Being able to download ebooks has made making sure he always has something to read less of a concern. The part that he likes the most is when he has a few moments alone in his classroom he can play a game without anyone knowing.

Christmas:

Kevin and Alex enjoy the Christmas holidays but find them tiring as well. Between their friends in the states, Alex's family in New Zealand, and Kevin's Aunt Ruth in the UK they end up bouncing through a lot of time zones, extending the holidays across two or three days. Christmas day US time is the day that they have set aside as theirs for celebrating since the family obligations are finished by then. They sleep in, have a nice leisurely breakfast, and then settle down under the tree to open gifts. In the end the largest pile of presents always belongs to Natalie.

Thanksgiving:

To celebrate Thanksgiving, Kevin and Alex usually spend the day with their friends from SGC. It is not a holiday that either of them is used to because they are not originally from the states. Sitting at the table in Sam's house, surrounded by their friends, each listing off the things they are thankful for, brings back memories of not only how lucky they are to have each other, but also the close calls they've had. In the end they are both Thankful for friends and family; but more than that, each other and the love they blessed with.

Independence:

For Alex and Kevin the fourth of July is just another day of the year. Since they now live in Colorado Springs they've become somewhat accustomed to the idea of it being a holiday. Before he bonded with Alex, Kevin would politely decline barbeque invitations and spend the day the way he did most holidays, working. Sitting on the roof of their house, pleasantly stuffed from Jack's hamburgers and Sam's potato salad, listening to Daniel explain the meaning behind the holiday to T'ealc while they wait for the fireworks to start Kevin has to admit that this is much better.

New Year:

Kevin and Alex always slip away from whatever party they are at an hour or so before midnight on New Year's Eve. They have a tradition of ringing in the coming year just the two of them, seated on a blanket in their spot at the Riverpark. They brought Natalie one year, but the sound of the fireworks made her edgy. Wine glasses raised they greet the New Year with an eye to the future and an ear to the past, both hoping that this one will bring an increase in tolerance and with it greater acceptance for those, like themselves, who are different.
